- Baseball (3) Instances to be Addressed at Meeting:
- #1 – Game on Tuesday, May 2nd, 2017
- Issue between Ken Leonard and Mike Dinnon
- Stan received an e-mail stating that that Ken said that it was “bullsh*t to play this game in this weather” in front of his team.
- Mike never heard Ken curse, but the issue was indeed over the weather. According to Mike:
- He was greeted with hostility from Ken, when he went to introduce himself, in front of the parents/players.
- According to Ken, Mike was loud and disrespectful towards him, and so he ignored him.
- Jeff Gannon, an assistant coach, offered the following as he was present at the game:
- Ken thought it was too cold for the kids to play; Ken is passionate about the kids and wants what’s best for them.
- He did not believe Mike raised his voice at all, but he didn’t think that Mike needed to take the conflict to another level (i.e., questioning Ken – “do you need to do this in front of the kids”).
- Danielle presents an e-mail to the Board from a parent who was at the game.
- Ken abruptly leaves the Board Meeting.
- #2 – Game on Friday, May 5th, 2017
- Umpire sent a note to the umpire assignor (Joe Hawker), who then forwarded onto Tony Silvia, and then to Stan.
- After a questionable call from the umpire, who is 12 years old, he heard the comment from the dugout: “F*ckin’ Blue”. In the e-mail, the umpire believes it came from the assistant coach, Jeff Gannon.
- Stan asks Jeff Gannon directly – “Was it said, and how was it said?”
- Jeff denies saying it at all.
- Stan instructs Tony Silvia to push the e-mail through Ethics and explains the process to Jeff.
- #3 – Game on Friday, May 5th, 2017
- Issue between Danielle Gorajski and Ron Varek
- Ron:
- In the 2nd/3rd inning, one of his players runs home from 3rd base. The coaches from Danielle’s team insist on the player going back to 3rd.
- Ron asks the umpire to have a coach’s meeting at home plate, but Danielle refuses to come out of the dugout.
- Danielle:
- Felt disrespected by Ron as she felt she felt she was being “called out like a dog”. She hears Ron saying that the “coach needs to know the rules”.
- Ron:
- Feels that this issue was less about this specific instance and more about the contentiousness over the past two seasons.
- Arguments ensue over approaches to coaching.
