    • Interview with Ron Centanni of Discover Tinley is now available to be viewed on Tinley Public Access Channel or on-line. Interview discusses the Tinley Park Bobcats Organization and the sports offered to kids.
    • Softball Scoreboard Update
      • As discussed in prior board meeting, an inquiry was made by Nicholas Henkle regarding a scoreboard at Bettenhausen Park Field #2 for softball.
      • Approval by the Park District is required for the scoreboard as it has lights and may distract homeowners near the field.
      • A cost estimate for the scoreboard is approx. $4,400. This was the amount paid for the Challenger Scoreboard a few years ago.

    • Field Maintenance Day was last Saturday, April 7th.
    • Sprinkler System Project on Field #1 at Bettenhausen to start tomorrow, Wednesday, April 11th.
      • Additional electrical work to be done as part of the project – discussions ongoing on where to put the electrical box.
    • Need new signage around Bettenhausen Park – new signage is needed as the old signs (with the old logo) were put up.
    • Outfield grass at all 3 fields needs to be rolled as a result of the outfield drainage project last fall. Will contact the PD to request they roll the grass.

 

  • Brian Burke – Flag Football Update
    • Working with Andrew High School to secure the fields for the Fall season.
    • Working with Ron Woodworth of the TP Park District to secure Freedom Field for the Fall Season.
    • Trying to determine whom to contact about the field at Helen Keller School.
    • Registration for Fall Season is now open.
    • Roma in Frankfort is not yet interested in a partnership for an indoor flag season. Plan is to wait them out to compare registration numbers.

 

  • Rich Granata – Challenger Update
    • Would like to thank the volunteers at Field Maintenance Day who put up the helmet racks/bat racks on Challenger Field.
    • Trying to put together a Colt level team (15 – 16 yr. olds).
      • Would use Vogt Woods as their home field.
    • Challenger teams have received their uniforms from “Be Creative”.

 

  • Marcia Kissane – Softball Update
    • Looking for an extra box to hold the pitching machine near the batting cages.
      • Jim and Joe confirm they’ll be able to find her one as there is at least one extra box near the shed that is not being used.
    • High School Rec registration is now closed. 15 girls registered.
    • Waiting on Frankfort to release the game schedule for the 10U, 12U, and 15U levels.
    • Tommy O’Connell Fundraiser – June 22, 2018
      • Would like to know if the Bobcats can do anything for the event as an organization to help.
        • Further discussions to take place to come up with ideas to help.
      • One issue with 15U player – wanted to change teams as there are two teams at that level. Resolution is near.
      • Mokena has backed out of the Bobcat League at Barrette’s (8U). They wanted to use a pitching machine, but the Bobcat rules do not allow it.
      • All coaches have been given login credentials for the National Assocation of Youth Sports (“NAYS”) training on-line.
      • Any updates on background checks for coaches?
        • Steve to follow-up with Brandi Parke.
      • Questions on SI Play
        • Some coaches are not receiving the e-mails/communications from SI Play
          • Per Randy – Issue may be related to only some of the parents/coaches having the SI Play application. Communications sent through the App will not go through to e-mail. Only parents that have the App will receive those communications.

Dick’s Day on April 7th and 8th!

I know we are getting excited about the Spring Season.  If you still need gear for the season here is a coupon for Dick’s that is good the whole weekend.

 

Required Equipment per sport:

Baseball – Glove and Cup, for all divisions other than Shetland spikes

Softball – Glove and face mask are required.  Bat and spikes are suggested.

Soccer – Shin Guards and soccer ball.  If you would like spikes, you can not have a toe spike.

    • Full maintenance required on the Gator – scheduled for Thursday, March 15th.
    • Shed garage – question on changing the keyless entry code:
      • Steve Bosco replies that the Board has moved to remove the keyless entry and switch entirely to remote controls. That way, only authorized people can enter the shed.

      • Travel Baseball Teams held a meeting earlier in the evening to discuss the upcoming season.

    • New App/Website will be utilized this season for signing up to work in the concession stand.
    • No travel teams will be required to provide help in the stand if they are playing on the same day as a rec team.
    • Two-Hour time slots in 2018.
    • Team Moms – will not be required to work in the concession stand – however, they are in charge of scheduling their respective team’s parents to work in the stand.
    • Head coach and assistant coaches (2 assistant coaches per team that are officially registered) do not have to work in the stand.

    • Park District drainage project is under way.
      • Trenches are being built into the outfields on all three Bettenhausen fields.
    • Sprinkler System project currently on hold as the Park District is awaiting a formal request for permission. Steve has e-mailed the Park District with that request.
    • Uniform Fittings took place at the Devine Center on Tuesday, October 24th – everything went well.
    • Mike Airola from Sports Huddle is in the process of creating a Bobcat Spiritwear Site. No minimums required to place an order.
    • Will schedule a Travel Coach’s meeting – in early December or after New Year’s.

 

  • Travel Soccer Update
    • Fall season has ended.
    • Two teams from the Girls’ Divisions won their respective leagues.

 

  • Michelle Cerullo – Softball Update:
    • 1st Meeting in Frankfort for next season set for December 4th.
    • 18U level can no longer play their games at Bettenhausen as the field is too small.
      • Will need to use Freedom Park field (for approx. 10 – 15 games).
      • A box to hold the bases, pitching rubber, spikes, and extra gear is needed.
        • Brian confirmed that the Flag Football box can be used for Softball.
      • Also, the fields will need to be lined. Who can help?
        • Steve will contact the Park District to assist.

    • Cheer Celebration took place two weeks ago.
    • Last competition is this Saturday (November 18th).

2018 Spring Softball Update

 

 

 

Hello Bobcat Softball Community,

 

Tinley Park Bobcats Softball registration is open for the 2018 Season.  We welcome girls from Tinley Park, Orland Hills, Orland Park, and the surrounding communities at resident fees.  Come join our organization as we focus on the fundamentals of softball at all levels while encouraging teamwork and most of all, FUN, in an organized sport.  All divisions will teach the girls the necessary fundamentals of the game while increasing their skill level throughout the year and preparing them for the next level. While the Bobcat Softball Organization focuses on teaching the girls the fundamentals, it also highly recognizes the importance of incorporating life skills.  We have made a decision this season to invest in our coaches and provide them with training and certification through the National Alliance for Youth Sports (“NAYS”), a nonprofit organization that educates, equips, and empowers youth sports leaders, volunteers, and parents so all children can enjoy the lifelong benefits of sports.  We have become a member organization of NAYS and look forward to the program training all head coaches will receive this year.

 

In addition, this year we are providing fundamental skills camps that run weekly from mid-February to mid-March.  For anyone interested in these camps, please see the registration options on SI play. Please note you will need to be registered with the Bobcats for the upcoming spring 2018 season in order to participate.  A small fee will be charged to cover our instructors and gym time.

 

I am also excited to announce that this year we now have 2 Full-Time travel teams and 3 Part-Time travel teams that have been working out together preparing for their upcoming seasons.  Our tryouts for these teams are held in August every year.  Please stay tuned for further information.

 

Bobcat softball is a volunteer organization and relies heavily on league representatives, coaches, team moms and parents to contribute their time throughout the year to ensure a positive experience and playing facility for our girls.  Volunteering is required of all levels of the softball organization.   If you do not wish to be a manager, coach, or team mom, parents are still required to serve a few hours in our concession stand.  However, there is an option to buy-out of this service time.  Please reach out with any inquiries regarding our program.

 

I look forward to serving you as Softball commissioner and I’m open to any suggestions you may have to better our program.  I encourage parents to stay involved and participate in parent meetings and any other opportunities that surface.  With the league representatives and volunteers that have already come forward, I am looking forward to this upcoming year as we all have one goal to work towards: “Preparing our girls with fundamental skills to play a game that will not only teach them life lessons but encourage teamwork and goal setting, all while having fun.”

    • Internal discussions in the prior week regarding budgets.
      • All travel teams (Full-Time and Part-Time) are required to turn in budgets to the Treasurer.
      • Rec sport budgets are due November 1st.
      • Travel sport budgets are overdue.
    • This past Sunday, a rec soccer team was having a kids v. parents scrimmage. One of the parents went into cardiac arrest.  Fortunately, an assistant coach performed CPR and saved the parent’s life.
      • Steve has contacted the Fire Department to get information on CPR classes to offer to all volunteer coaches. Such classes would not be mandatory, but would be made available for anyone interested.
      • The Bobcats would like to recognize the assistant coach in some way.

  • Michelle Cerullo – Softball Update:
    • Fall Ball games end this week.
    • All medals were distributed to coaches.
    • Marcia is working on getting a clinic together for softball.
    • Open gyms will start once or twice a month for all levels – this starts in a few weeks.

 

  • Randy Goss
    • Thus far, travel budgets have been received for all of Travel Soccer and approximately 5 travel baseball teams.
      • No budgets received from travel softball.
    • Randy has modified the check requests and deposit forms to reduce redundancies in the forms.
      • They were provided to the assistant treasurers (Mike Minetti and Charlie Wurster) and is awaiting comments.
      • Once they are ready, they will be distributed to all of the commissioners to further distribute to the travel coaches.

 

  • Jim Keating
    • Update on Travel Baseball Uniforms
      • The fitting for all of the travel baseball teams will take place on Tuesday, October 24th, between 5pm and 9pm at the Devine Center behind St. Julie’s.
    • Fall Field Clean-up at Bettenhausen Park
      • Scheduled for Saturday, October 28th at 9:00am
      • Back-up day is Sunday, October 29th
    • Steve states that there are two (2) fire safe cabinets on the soccer side of the shed. At the field clean-up, one of those cabinets should be moved to the baseball side to contain all aerosols and any other flammable items.
    • Estimates for the indoor sprinkling system on Field #1 at Bettenhausen were provided to the Board. The Board has since approved the project and it will begin in the late fall.
    • An estimate was also provided for outfield sprinklers – too expensive to do in 2017 – may be re-visited next year.
    • A new Field Maintenance person is needed to handle Bettenhausen fields. Jim will help to transition this role to the new person.

 

  • Cheer Update – Brenda Nelson:

  • Flag Football Update – Brian Burke:
    • Two more weeks of the Flag Football season.
    • Still waiting to get confirmation of Andrew’s main field for the Super Bowl, scheduled for October 22nd.
    • Pro Bowl to be on for 2nd year in a row – October 29th.
    • Issue with a coach in the 2nd-3rd grade division. He was thrown out of the game, but refused to leave the field.  He as since been suspended indefinitely.
    • Issues with referees – no different than in prior years.
    • Indoor Flag
      • Struggling with registrations
      • Hoping to get enough for at least one division – use it as a pilot program, if possible.
      • Extending the registration deadline date to Friday (October 13, 2017).
      • If indoor flag does not happen, then the indoor space can be used for Soccer.

 

  • Marketing Update – Danielle:
    • Food Drive wrapped up.
      • Lower donation amount than the prior year (1,000 items v. 620 items)
      • Attributed to donations made to people affected by the hurricanes down south.
    • Pushed indoor flag heavily
      • Most popular reason for families not signing up – too many conflicts.
